The Finance Committee approved stipulation agreements settling an assessment appeal concerning property in the Pembroke Station area, administration said, and authorized refunding taxes for the current year.
Administration said the assessed value for the property on Church Road in Upper Gwynedd Township will be reduced from $36,800,000 to $31,300,000 for 2025 and that the district will refund approximately $177,000 in taxes for the current year. The administration said the stipulation also sets a lower assessed value for future years; "going forward, they will reduce it in another approximately $2,000,000 down to about $29 million for 2026 and beyond," according to the presentation to the committee.
The settlement followed litigation and a court stipulation, administration said; the committee approved the recommended stipulation agreements on the advice of counsel. "Do I have a motion and a second to recommend the approval of the attached stipulation agreements?" the chair asked; Mister Fusco moved and Mister Resch seconded. The committee approved the motion by voice vote.
Why it matters: the settlement affects taxable assessed value for the district and results in a one-time refund payment and a reduced taxable base in future years, both of which have budget implications.
Next steps: administration will process the refund and implement the new assessed value as stipulated; the settlement will be reflected in future tax rolls and revenue projections.
