Duarte board appoints Richard Crosby interim superintendent, approves temporary pay increase

The Duarte Unified School District Board of Education on Thursday approved an employment agreement naming Richard Crosby as interim superintendent, with the assignment beginning Oct. 1 and a temporary pay increase.
Board President Finley read an oral summary required by state law before taking final action, telling the board the interim agreement increases Crosby's daily rate by $250 while he serves as interim superintendent and that benefit eligibility is unchanged. Finley cited Government Code Section 54953(c)(3) while summarizing compensation and terms in open session as required under the Brown Act.
The board approved the agreement by unanimous vote (motion by Board Member Holguin; second by Board Member Hasso). Finley said Crosby will perform the duties of the superintendent and exercise the powers of the office during the interim period until a permanent superintendent takes effect.
The district also passed a related administrative item authorizing Crosby to sign documents requiring superintendent approval until a new superintendent is in place.
