School board unanimously names Marshall gymnasium for Joseph D. Swarm and Westfield activities office for Terri Toll

The Fairfax County School Board unanimously approved two naming resolutions on Sept. 11, dedicating the main gymnasium at George C. Marshall High School as the Joseph D. Swarm Gymnasium and the activities office at Westfield High School as the Terri K. Toll Activities Office.
Mr. Frisch moved the Swarm resolution, noting Joe Swarm's 30 years of service to Marshall as a teacher, coach and director of student activities. "Joe Swarm is the kind of adult every student deserves to have in their corner," Frisch said. The motion to approve the Swarm resolution was seconded by Mr. McElveen and carried unanimously by the members present.
Ms. Dixit moved the resolution honoring Terri Toll for her leadership and decades of service at Westfield; Ms. Marron seconded the motion. The board approved the naming of the Westfield activities office to honor Toll's contributions to the school's athletic and student-activities programs.
Both resolutions included language describing the honorees' service and the rationale for dedicating the spaces in their names. The board invited honorees, families and supporters to join for photos at the dais after the votes.
What happens next: The district will implement signage and coordinate dedication events with the respective high schools.
