Lapeer County appoints Marsh McLennan as insurance broker; HR named plan administrator

County HR Director presented a recommendation on Sept. 11 to appoint Marsh McLennan Agency LLC as Lapeer County's insurance broker of record and to designate the HR director as the plan administrator. The presenter said the new broker proposal includes quarterly reporting, compliance testing, midyear education services and broader employee support, and that changing brokers could yield commission savings "upwards of a $130,000" from the current arrangement. "Marsh McLennan comes in offering quarterly reporting, compliance testing for annual filings, midyear education services, more comprehensive services for our employees," the HR director said. Commissioners voted to accept the bid and appoint Marsh McLennan; the current broker was to be notified of the transition. A commissioner noted the prior broker had served many years and asked whether a formal contract existed; the HR director said no current contract with the incumbent broker was found in records. The board approved the change by voice vote.
