Montgomery County leaders and emergency-management partners on Tuesday proclaimed September 2025 as National Preparedness Month and urged residents to prepare family emergency plans, assemble kits and sign up for county alert notifications.
The proclamation, presented on the council dais and signed by County Executive Mark Elrich and County Council President Kate Stewart, called for residents to prepare for natural and human-caused disasters and to participate in community preparedness activities.
County emergency officials said preparedness lowers injuries and economic losses in disasters. “Talking about the possibility of a disaster or emergency is not easy, but having a conversation with family members and friends is important to being prepared and staying safe,” a presenter said.
