Council adds and approves senior assistance ordinances for winter snow removal, trash subsidy and gutter cleaning

Macedonia council on Sept. 11 unanimously added three pieces of legislation to the agenda and adopted them the same night. The items create or continue the city’s senior assistance programs for the 2025–26 season:

- Ordinance 66 (2025): Establishes the senior snow‑removal program for the 2025–26 winter season.
- Ordinance 67 (2025): Authorizes a refuse collection subsidy for eligible senior citizens and appropriates funds for the subsidy.
- Ordinance 68 (2025): Authorizes the mayor to enter an agreement with ValueView Property Maintenance LLC for a fall gutter‑cleaning program for qualified seniors.

Council approved adding the three items to the agenda by waiving the 48‑hour rule and then adopted each ordinance by voice vote. Staff said program eligibility includes residents age 65 and over or residents with qualifying disabilities (doctor verification required) and that income thresholds apply for subsidy eligibility; those interested should contact the finance department for sign-up details. Council members said the programs have longstanding precedent and remain an important service for older and disabled residents.
