The Delaware County Drainage Board voted to table a proposed headwall design and associated construction for a 24-inch tile where it daylights into an open ditch north of McGalliard Road. The county surveyor presented a draft design from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and two contractor cost estimates — about $19,000 and about $32,000.
Surveyor Tom said the design had been provided as a draft by NRCS and that the surveyor’s office had not yet solicited competitive bids or alternative designs. He asked whether the board wanted him to obtain additional quotes or seek a different, lower-cost structure. A board member moved to table the item for further investigation and additional quotes; the motion was seconded and approved by roll call.
The proposed work is on the north side of the roadway near a property identified in the discussion by a homeowner name, and the surveyor requested guidance before proceeding because the estimated construction cost exceeded the department’s usual threshold for quotes. The board did not commit funds or approve a contractor and directed staff to return with more information, including additional quotes and possible alternative designs.
