Parking Department staff proposed a one-year, one-way valet pilot for events at the Miami Beach Bandshell that would allow attendees to drop vehicles at the Bandshell entrance and retrieve them from a designated municipal lot such as Parking Lot 106 (the library lot) or other underutilized municipal assets.
Director Will McDonald said the pilot aims to reduce on-street parking pressure and encourage concert patrons to patronize neighborhood businesses by routing valet retrieval through lots that are walkable to commercial corridors. The library lot was identified because data show underutilization and pedestrian access through the Ocean Terrace commercial area; staff said other remote lots could be added as Deauville Garage and other capacity come online.
The Rhythm Foundation, which runs Bandshell programming, said it schedules events most nights during season and supported options that expand access and safety, particularly during turtle season when lighting is limited. Commissioners requested coordination on staffing, safety, pricing and resident impacts and moved the measure to the full commission for approval.
Takeaway: The committee supported moving the one-way valet pilot to the full commission with Parking Department and Rhythm Foundation to provide operational details and safety coordination.
