The Newnan City Council approved two applications for alcohol beverage licenses and corrected the city code to allow licenses in MXD zoning districts during the Sept. 9 regular meeting.
At a public hearing opened by the mayor, the council approved a retail on-premise pouring sales license for Applebee’s at 971 Bullswood Drive, citing a change of ownership and finding no public opposition at the hearing. The council took a separate public hearing and approved a retail on-premise pouring sales license for Curious Kitchen at 8 Newnan Station Drive; a representative said the business expects to open later in the month. Both actions passed on unanimous voice votes recorded as “Aye.”
Later in the meeting Mr. Smith explained that when the city adopted the MXD (mixed-use development) zoning classification in 2021, the alcohol code was not updated to list MXD as an allowable district. Mr. Smith said the ordinance amendment seeks to correct that oversight by adding MXD back into Chapter 3 (Alcohol Beverages), section 3-37, so that licenses may be considered in MXD districts. The council adopted the ordinance amendment by unanimous voice vote.
All three items were handled as routine code and licensing matters; no recorded conditions, contested hearings, or roll-call vote tallies were recorded in the public transcript beyond voice approval.
