Dean, the golf course superintendent, briefed the board on course operations, revenue and capital work. He reported August was about $17,000 above the prior comparable month and that the course is roughly $70,000 ahead year to date.
Why it matters: the maintenance, cart‑path and driving‑range projects affect course availability, revenue from outings and camps, and the department’s ability to host tournaments and indoor simulator programming over the winter.
Dean said the course has been challenged by a hot, dry summer but that rounds and cart‑pass revenue recovered later in the season. He reported the recent cart‑path paving had started and expected crews to finish that first full day of paving by Friday, barring weather. He thanked Central Paving for work on the cart paths and described heavy stone deliveries coordinated with the city street and county highway departments.
On the driving range, Dean said the tee station was built, irrigation installed, and staff seeded landing areas using long fiber mats (about 135 feet each). He described approximately 20–25 fiber mats installed to protect seed and noted staff spent extended hours repairing irrigation on Labor Day.
A pole/storage barn has been completed structurally but still awaits inspection before equipment can be moved in, Dean said. The simulator room is essentially finished except for projector mounting and staff training; he said the course will integrate simulator reservations into the existing T‑Snap/TSNAP tee‑time system. Dean reported the course applied for a three‑way license (state application process) and that a hearing is expected in October.
Dean described other operational details: new cart barns have been resided and roofed; outlets for driving‑range topsoil and fill have been improved; and the course is hosting sectional high school competitions on Sept. 22. He also noted the course purchased a new sprayer, which he said cost about $70,000 and helped turf performance during extreme weather.
Ending: Dean asked the board and public to appreciate staff efforts during a difficult season; no formal board actions were taken on the course projects during the meeting.
