County facilities and IT work at the Wichita County Courthouse is proceeding, with staff reporting near‑completion of interior work and the start of an electronic access control project that will require recredentialing staff ID cards.
Facilities manager Tommy told the court the annex office is open and crews were finishing restroom tile work and kitchen electrical repairs; the county is replacing door hardware and beginning installation of the new electronic credentialing system. "Our office is open. They're still finishing up the restrooms... the Digi project started yesterday in full force. They're pulling in wire. Doors... we are going to be down on that West Door until probably middle of next week," Tommy said.
The county will issue new ID cards for employees and appointed officials will retain mechanical keys in limited circumstances, Tommy said. The judge and staff said once the system goes live, suite access will be controlled by electronic credentials and the system will also serve as a time clock; mechanical keys will be limited to appointed or elected officials for security control.
Separately, the court heard an update on the Burke annex design. The judge said architects and project stakeholders — including the judge’s office and the constable — have reviewed drawings and the court will soon consider a motion to approve project actions needed to move the Burke annex forward.
What they decided: no formal vote was required on the construction update; staff reported progress and said forthcoming agenda items will request formal authorization for the Burke annex work and related procurement steps.
