At a municipal meeting, staff announced a fundraising event for first responders and veterans set for Saturday, Sept. 13, at the park and provided updates on fall events and park operations. Charlie, a staff member, described the fundraiser as a benefit for first-responder and veteran mental-health resources and said several community groups and vendors will participate. The event was described as featuring a tournament presented by Backyard Baggers, live music by Pistol City, a kids activity credited to an organization identified in the meeting as "Apple and Resources," and food sales by Scooter's Family Barbecue. Registration was said to open at 1 p.m. with a blind-draw entry fee of $20 per person, and the event running from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Charlie said proceeds will go to providing mental-health resources for first responders and veterans. Charlie also said a streets and sanitation team member is part of an "Alpha 1 resource organization" involved in the event and that a streets and sanitation employee, Mike Lucas, is a member of Pistol City, the band performing at the fundraiser. Charlie said weather looked favorable for the weekend event. In addition to the Sept. 13 fundraiser, Charlie said the department is preparing for holiday decorations, and that winterization of the splash pad is complete for the year. On the topic of food trucks, Charlie said staff are aiming to host additional trucks this month and reported that four trucks was an appropriate number for the last Wednesday event, though the schedule is still being finalized. Charlie identified Oct. 4 as the date for the Brass Rabbit event and noted that date coincides with a separate street event; he said there are multiple events scheduled between now and the next meeting. The meeting recorded routine procedural business before these announcements: the agenda and previous minutes were adopted and allowance claims were approved by voice votes. The meeting adjourned after the announcements.
