The Decatur Public Schools Board of Education approved two facilities projects during its Sept. 9 meeting: an HVAC automation upgrade at Stephen Decatur Middle School and boiler piping upgrades at the Social Emotional Learning Academy. Both motions passed with six ayes, zero nays and one absence.
District staff described the HVAC work to the board as replacing failing controls with new computerized controls to restore efficiency and comfort. A staff member said, “It’s adding new controls…the old controls are starting to fail and we’re putting new computer controls into them so we can keep the efficiency and and the comfort level on that where it needs to be.”
Both projects were presented as roll-call agenda items, moved and seconded, and carried without further amendment in open session. The board recorded aye votes from Mr. Reynolds, Mr. Hale, Mrs. Tias, Mr. Wetzel, Mr. Clevenger and Dr. Lorenzen. The motions did not include dollar amounts or vendor names in the open discussion; supporting project documents are part of the agenda packet and the minutes.
