Roswell — The Roswell Independent School District board voted Sept. 9 to approve a School Improvement and Transformation (SIT) grant for University High School, a school leader and district staff said.
Principal Miss Hall presented the grant, which she said aligns with the school's 90‑day plan and funds programming to support academics and attendance improvement. "Part of what we're doing is we're looking at project based learning and credit recovery capstones as part of building more agency within the building," Hall said, describing professional development, substitute coverage to free teachers for training, funding for teacher travel to observe model schools and materials for parent communications.
Hall said the school will use community‑school meetings to involve parents and students and will hold a "fortieth day" celebration Oct. 9 that will combine student recognition and parent‑teacher conferences. She also told the board that the SIT grant does not show a parent‑engagement line item but that the school will use community‑school funding and Title funds to support resource fairs and parent outreach.
Board vote: Trustee James Edwards moved approval; Trustee French seconded. The motion passed by voice vote.
Why it matters: The grant targets improvements in attendance and academic outcomes through project‑based learning, credit recovery and strengthened family/community ties. District staff said the state is scrutinizing cross‑funding and that Hall’s team worked to avoid duplicate funding requests across grants.
Ending: Trustees approved the SIT grant; Hall invited board members to visit the school and see capstone presentations and community‑school activities.
