Covington County approves contract renewals for inmate housing and town deputy

County officials said the inmate‑housing contract covers the housing of inmates from municipalities that do not have their own detention facilities. A motion to approve the inmate‑housing contract was made by Commissioner Robbie and seconded by Commissioner Ben; the motion passed by voice vote.
Separately, the Town of Sanford contract continues the arrangement in which the town pays for a deputy to serve 40 hours a week within the town. County staff explained that if the deputy must leave the town for other county duties, time is made up so the town receives equivalent coverage; county officials said the arrangement helped add an additional deputy on the road. Commissioner Tommy moved to approve the Sanford deputy contract; Commissioner Robbie seconded. The motion passed by voice vote.
The meeting packet lists the Sanford deputy contract on pages 38–39 and the inmate‑housing contract in the packet materials provided to commissioners.
No changes to the contract terms were recorded in the meeting minutes; commissioners said they had reviewed the agreements at the previous workshop.
