Council proclaims National Adult Day Service Week, recognizes local providers

The Maryville Town Council on Sept. 9 adopted a proclamation recognizing Sept. 21-27 as National Adult Day Service Week and highlighted local providers.
Veronica Tello, director of Active Day of Maryville, told the council the center has served local seniors and county residents for more than 20 years. The proclamation cited President Ronald Reagan's 1983 proclamation (No. 5107) recognizing adult day-care centers and described adult day services as providing supervised community settings, therapeutic programming, nutrition and respite that help older adults and people with disabilities remain in their homes longer.
The council unanimously approved the proclamation by voice vote and called on residents to observe and educate others about the contributions of adult day services. The council specifically recognized Active Day of Maryville and Tradewind Services (serving Lake and Porter counties) for their long-term service to the area.
