Covington County officials introduced two in‑home service workers at the Sept. 9 commission meeting and described the county’s long-running program that provides in‑home assistance to residents. County staff said the program has existed for many years and has evolved from a small, volunteer-style effort into a broader service that addresses housing- and shelter-related needs.
Karen, a county staff member, told the commission that the county’s program is tied to a grant from the Southern Alabama Regional Council on Aging (SARCOA). “They will reimburse us $13,000 for the year,” Karen said, and the county pays the remaining program costs.
The commission approved the SARCOA contract covering pages 40–51 of the meeting packet. A motion to approve the contract was made and seconded; the record shows the motion passed by voice vote.
Officials thanked the in‑home workers present, including Deborah Neal and Laura Grama, for their service. County leaders described the program as longstanding and said it has been adapted over time to better meet clients’ immediate needs.
No changes to eligibility, client counts, or staffing levels were specified in the meeting record beyond the staff explanation and the SARCOA reimbursement amount.
