District staff presented two enrollment snapshots during the meeting: a day‑10 report (Aug. 29, the version posted with the agenda) and an updated day‑14 report (Sept. 5) shared at the meeting.
The Aug. 29 snapshot showed 32,084 students district‑wide (15,975 elementary; 6,421 middle; 9,688 high), a net decline of 849 students versus the same point in 2024. The Sept. 5 update showed 32,316 students (16,073 elementary; 6,487 middle; 9,756 high) — a net decline of 828 versus the same date in 2024 — and noted an increase of 232 students districtwide between the two reports.
Staff said the numbers tend to normalize in mid to late September and highlighted migrant student movement as an important variable. The presentation said 204 migrant students had left the district last year and that approximately 60 had returned so far. Staff said they were awaiting additional migrant returns and that those figures are important to the district’s final enrollment totals for accountability and funding.
No board vote was required; the reports were informational. The superintendent and staff said they would continue to monitor enrollment and provide updated reports to the board.
