Superintendent Latanya Daniels reported to the ISD 191 Board of Education on Sept. 11 that the district’s first week back included more than 7,200 students in attendance and 124 newly hired staff, including 74 teachers. Daniels said executive and building leaders conducted extensive summer onboarding and professional development and that she personally visited every school and several programs prior to the start of the year.
Daniels provided operational metrics for the opening: building and grounds staff cleaned about 1.7 million square feet of district space and completed 84 construction projects in 58 days. On the first full day of in‑person attendance, Food Services served 3,536 breakfasts and 5,537 lunches; the superintendent noted that more than 50% of students chose breakfast and more than 80% participated in lunch. The district transported 5,628 students daily via 53 bus routes, including 32 special education buses and 21 Type 3 vans.
Board members thanked Daniels for the outreach and noted the superintendent’s visible presence in buildings during the lead‑up to school. The report closed with Daniels expressing gratitude to staff and community partners for a smooth opening.
