Council approves appointments and returns some boards for further review

The Tyler City Council approved a slate of appointments and reappointments to multiple city boards and commissions on Sept. 10, staff said.
Cassandra (staff member) summarized vacancies and the staff recommendations developed after a preliminary review at a boards-and-commissions training on Aug. 13. The recommendations included appointments or reappointments for the Airport Advisory Board (five vacancies), Library Board (five vacancies), Keep Tall Beautiful Board (seven vacancies), Main Street Board (six vacancies), Parks Board (seven vacancies) and Planning and Zoning Commission (four vacancies), among others. Cassandra said several other boards — including the Elder Care Advisory Board, Historic Preservation Board and Traffic Safety Board — would be brought back to the council at its Sept. 24 meeting because additional applications had been received after the preliminary review.
Councilmember Curtis moved to approve the recommended appointments and reappointments; Councilmember Nichols seconded. The motion carried by voice vote.
Staff said the recommendations and an exhibit listing the proposed appointees were provided to council and that outstanding vacancies and application updates would be presented at the Sept. 24 meeting for boards flagged for additional review.
