The Nantucket Select Board unanimously adopted two proclamations on Sept. 10—one recognizing National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and the other designating September 2025 as Climate Change Awareness Month for the Town of Nantucket. Rachel Merriweather read the suicide awareness proclamation, which cited national statistics from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and noted Nantucket's local rate of 20.9 per 100,000 versus the Massachusetts rate of 9.5 per 100,000. A board member moved adoption; the motion carried unanimously. Sustainability Programs Manager Vince Murphy read the climate change awareness proclamation, which noted the Select Board’s 2022 endorsement of the Nantucket Coastal Resilience Plan, local sea‑level rise scenario updates, ongoing coastal resilience projects and community events planned for September. The board moved and unanimously approved the proclamation. Procedural note: Both proclamations were adopted by motion and vote on the Sept. 10 Select Board agenda and will be placed on file per town practice.
