Peabody committee pauses MSBA accelerated repair plan; district will pursue full roof repairs at West and South schools

Peabody — Members of the School Committee’s Building & Grounds subcommittee reported Tuesday that the district will not continue under the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) accelerated-repair approach for two roof projects and instead intends to move forward with the full roof repairs the district originally expected.
Subcommittee members said the MSBA owner’s project manager had brought additional scope items that exceeded the district’s original expectations for the West Memorial and South Memorial school roof projects. As a result, the district will not proceed with MSBA participation for those roofs "as initially planned," the subcommittee report said; staff said the West roof will be addressed first and the South roof will follow. Committee members reiterated that both roofs still need full repair and that the district will proceed with contracting to complete the work.
The subcommittee also reported that a vendor was on-site at the Brown School to address exterior issues identified at opening day; the vendor was scheduled to continue work the following day. Members noted the Welch School roof was repaired as part of recent work related to Welch renovations, including new exterior cladding to limit water infiltration. The McCarthy School currently lacks a bike rack; staff said a bike rack should be installed within a few weeks.
