Board members used the Sept. 11 Committee of the Whole to continue work on board governance and goal setting, with a target to finalize and post goals in September. Board members said they are assigning pairs to lead four focus areas (facilities and finance, annual budget and budgeting process, project decision points, and faculty collective bargaining). They discussed communications and community engagement plans, including "listening" events and board office hours, and reported a successful board table at back‑to‑school night. The board also discussed formalizing a mentoring protocol for the student delegate program; Alla, the student delegate, said she would like to be involved in communications work. Separately, members asked administration to convene a demographic data review to examine staff‑diversity goals that have shown limited progress in recent years, and to return a scope and plan after an upcoming working meeting. Another committee member asked administration to report back on risk management and safety culture in response to a rise in employee injury claims and related insurance costs. Members asked for a fall report on extracurricular participation trends highlighted last spring that showed Black students' participation had not recovered from pandemic declines.
