The Farragut Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved a professional services agreement Sept. 11 with Cannon & Cannon Inc. for design work on pedestrian and intersection improvements on Boring Road in preparation for a new Knox County school. Public Works staff said Cannon & Cannon—s proposal covers design of a mid-block crossing on Boring Road, an all-way stop at Boring Road and Smith Road, and a school zone on Smith Road with flashing beacons. The work is intended to accommodate a new Knox County school that is under construction near Boring Road. The design fee is a lump sum of $37,950. Staff recommended approval and the board approved the agreement by voice (roll call recorded in the minutes with all board members voting yes). Staff said the work is a pre-construction design step and will be followed by permitting and construction procurement once the design is complete. Town staff noted the improvements are being advanced now to coincide with the school—s opening and to provide pedestrian safety and traffic control measures at the new school site.
