Grosse Ile Fire Department pins five volunteer firefighters after completing probationary training

GROSSE ILE, Mich. — Chief Bob Roscoe presided over a badge-pinning ceremony at the Grosse Ile Fire Commission meeting, recognizing five volunteer firefighters who completed required training and exceeded their 18-month probationary periods. The ceremony honored Firefighter EMT Nicole Gull, Firefighter EMT Matt Nelson, Firefighter EMT Carl Dickerson, Firefighter EMT Jeff Will and Firefighter EMT Kasaborski. Chief Roscoe said, “These are members who have completed all their required training and have exceeded their 18 month probationary period.” The event included an official swearing-in. Assistant Chief Chris Davenport and Lieutenant Andrew Huber assisted at the podium; family members pinned several firefighters. The department provided call-response tallies for each honoree: Kasaborski responded to 703 EMS calls and 160 fire calls; Nelson 770 EMS calls and 165 fire calls; Dickerson 550 EMS calls and 111 fire calls; Will 591 EMS calls and 118 fire calls; and Gull 536 EMS calls and 105 fire calls. Commission members present applauded the volunteers’ service and emphasized the value of locally delivered training that allows members with outside jobs to complete certifications. Resident Margaret Shelton addressed the commission during public comment and thanked department volunteers for their service. Roscoe said the department will repeat the ceremony as additional members complete training; he noted eight new members are currently working toward their certificates. The department plans to post ceremony photos on its Facebook page and invited attendees to remain for photos.
