Public Works updates: McKnight crosswalk pilot, Hanley tenant repairs and EV charger exploration

Public Works Department staff provided updates on a range of municipal projects, telling the committee they will bring an agreement for a McKnight Road crosswalk pilot, and outlined building and stormwater work at city-owned properties. Dan said a McKnight Road crosswalk pilot — similar to an existing crosswalk at the YMCA but with additional features — will be brought to the Board for approval. He also said the Ameren Renewable Solutions Program binding agreement, due Sept. 18, will not be executed now but that the utility acknowledged the city letter and said it may propose other ideas in the future. At 288 Hanley Industrial Court, staff reported a new tenant that uses high-pressure water cutting equipment moved in; staff have addressed electrical and plumbing issues and said a small section of roof damaged in May will be repaired. Dan also described a possible vehicle charger to support Brentwood School District buses: the district is exploring bus charging and, because of limited space at their site, may use city property for charger installation; Public Works will assess charger size and siting. Dan said the city is working with the city attorney on temporary construction easements and permanent easement rights to straighten a retaining wall at 2832 (two property owners involved), that stormwater bid package 1 will be adjusted from a lump sum to itemized bid tabs to accommodate potential quantity changes, and that staff will issue an RFQ for traffic engineering services after using the same firm for more than a decade. Additional minor items included reassembly of decorative lighting on Strassner Drive once replacement parts arrive and awaiting quotes for a leaning streetlight and a weather-tight cabinet replacement on Manchester Road. No formal committee actions were taken; staff said they will return with agreements, RFQ results and construction easements as those items advance.
