Local committee offers interpretive signage drafts for courthouse monument; board says decision forthcoming

Brooke Vander Velde, a District 2 resident who served on the county committee to develop interpretive signage for the courthouse monument, asked the Amherst County Board of Supervisors on Oct. 21 to review documents the committee produced.
Vander Velde said the materials include an historical survey and a source book intended to conform with draft guidance from the Virginia Department of Historic Resources; she asked the board to consider the committee’s research and to accept copies for review.
A board member responded that the board had delayed action on the signage until after the budget process and staffing changes were resolved, and said the board expects to take the question up soon. The board chair and supervisors said they had not forgotten the matter and thanked the committee for its work. Vander Velde offered to discuss the materials further with board members.
No formal action on signage was recorded at the meeting; the exchange took place during the citizen-comment period.
