Lee County transit official reports ridership gains and ongoing studies on transit deserts and hydrogen fuels

Greg Gates, transit staff, gave a monthly report saying ridership is increasing as the school year resumes. He said the Reagan Mass Transit District recorded “almost 8,000 rides locally during September.”
Gates said the rural Winnebago County public transportation service that Lee County operates on Winnebago’s behalf provided 102 rides in September, which he described as a sign of growing awareness and use. He reported ongoing work on a transit desert grant study in partnership with Northern Illinois University and said consultants were conducting ride-alongs to identify service gaps in Lee County.
Gates also said the county’s hydrogen fuels feasibility study with the University of Illinois continues and that he and consultants will present findings next week at the 40th annual Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) fall planning conference in the Quad Cities.
Gates concluded his report by inviting questions; none were raised that led to committee action.
