The Weld County Board of Commissioners on Oct. 15, 2025 approved in part a petition for abatement or refund of taxes filed by Hive Longmont LLC regarding a property operating as Longmont Climbing Collective (a recreational climbing gym).

Brenda Donis, Weld County assessor, told commissioners the building was completed in 2024 and that the assessor’s office reviewed the owner-supplied construction costs. The assessor reported that mapping from the City of Longmont indicated about seven acres of the roughly 12.2-acre parcel lie in a flood plain and are therefore unbuildable; those acres were valued at $3,000 per acre. The assessor said the building costs submitted by the owner (just over $4.5 million) were reasonable and were used in the cost approach to value.

Based on that review, the assessor recommended approving reductions in assessed value for both tax years at issue. For tax year 2023 (land only) the assessor recommended lowering the value to $1,033,515, producing an abatement of $17,145.18. For tax year 2024 (land plus building) the assessor recommended reducing the combined value from $6,793,364 to $5,541,531, producing an abatement of $32,287.34.

Commissioner Scott James moved to approve the petition in part; Commissioner Kevin Ross seconded. The board asked whether anyone in the audience wished to speak on the petition; no one did. The petition was approved by voice vote (aye), and the clerk recorded the motion as carried.

The assessor's office will implement the revised assessed values for tax-year processing and notify the property owner as required by county procedure.
