Commission approves law‑enforcement protection grant application and names alternate municipal judge; volunteer reporting updated

Tucumcari — The City Commission on March 27 approved several administrative items: the Law Enforcement Protection Fund (LEPF) application for the coming year, an appointment to the municipal court alternate judge pool, and the annual volunteer firefighter retirement service reporting.

Law Enforcement Protection Fund: A presenter outlined the LEPF application, saying the base was approximately $95,000 and that the total request equaled $108,500 once staffing certification adjustments were included; the presenter noted carryover funds available from the current award. The commission voted to approve submission of the LEPF application. The presenter noted that prior awards had been in a similar range and that the grant has been adjusted over time.

Municipal court appointment: The commission moved to appoint Mrs. Morales as an alternate municipal judge to expand the pool of alternates to three as required by municipal code. The motion passed on roll call; one commissioner recorded an abstention.

Volunteer firefighter reporting: The commission approved the annual reporting that allows volunteer firefighters to receive service credit for retirement. Staff said they had reviewed two years of records to ensure credits were correct and that they would submit the required report.
