Commissioners discussed potential collaborations with the Kingman youth advisory group and community organizations on cleanups and education programs for 2026, and they voted to invite an organization identified in the transcript as "Kayak" to the commission’s January 2026 meeting to present partnership opportunities.
At the April 17, 2025 meeting Commissioner Eric was appointed to contact Kayak about collaborating on Adopt a Highway cleanups or an Earth Day event for 2026. Eric reported on meeting notes Oct. 16 describing enthusiasm from students at local high schools and homeschool groups; ideas included tree planting, cleaning empty lots near schools, water-conservation education and joint Adopt a Highway or Adopt a Block cleanups.
Commissioner Bowe proposed an art and essay contest for schools to encourage participation and suggested awarding gift cards and city-branded items; staff noted there is precedent pre-COVID for school contests and awards and that the commission previously provided gift-card awards for school projects.
Separately, staff reported that Neighborhood Services had received and approved one new Adopt a Block application in the Downtown Kingman area; the applicant was not named in the report and staff said they would follow up by email. Signs are available for Adopt a Block participants for $65 each if groups opt to purchase them.
The commission moved and passed a motion to invite Kayak to the January 2026 meeting to present opportunities for Earth Day, an Adopt a Highway cleanup, and potential Adopt a Block partnerships; the vote was by voice and individual roll-call votes are not recorded in the transcript.
Commissioners also discussed inviting other community organizations — including Special Olympics and local schools — to collaborate on events and suggested adding school recycling competitions to a future agenda for planning and possible funding sources.
