The Kingman City Clean City Commission voted on Oct. 16 to shift its regular meetings from quarterly to bimonthly on a one-year trial beginning January 2026.
Commissioner Eric made the motion "that we change Clean City Commission meeting frequency to bimonthly starting January 2026," which was later amended on the floor to explicitly set the schedule for a trial year (January, March, May, July, September and November) beginning in 2026. The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote; the transcript does not record a roll-call tally of individual votes.
Commissioners who supported the change said the intent was to allow the commission to act more proactively and to approve items more quickly, rather than waiting several months between meetings. "If we did this, I would implore that we become more proactive in what we do and kinda more inventive," Commissioner Eric said as he explained the rationale for the proposal.
Opponents and those urging caution said they worried about the burden on city staff and commissioners’ schedules. One commissioner said a special-meeting option should be preserved for urgent items and noted the commission can revert to quarterly meetings if the additional sessions do not produce sufficient results.
Staff clarified that special meetings remain permitted under open meeting law requirements, with agendas posted in advance, and that the council chamber appears available for the proposed schedule.
The commission’s amended motion instituting a one-year trial passed by voice vote; the transcript does not list a roll-call vote or individual yea/nay tallies.
The change takes effect January 2026 unless the commission votes otherwise at a later date.
