The Liberty County Board of Commissioners appointed a physician to the county Board of Health and approved a memorandum of understanding with the University system governing expectations for the county extension office.
Commissioners appointed Dr. Pecora to fill the expired term of Dr. Speltz on the Liberty County Board of Health after staff reported Dr. Speltz no longer practices in the county, a stated requirement for service. The board moved and seconded the appointment and voted in favor; staff confirmed the appointee meets the requirement to be a physician practicing in Liberty County.
Separately, the board approved a standard memorandum of understanding the county has provided to extension offices across Georgia. County staff said the MOU outlines expectations between the local governing body and the extension office, and the version before the board included an explicit section describing IT, computer and internet-connectivity expectations the extension office and the county will provide. County staff said the items listed—such as internet connectivity and phone support—are services most counties already provide; approving the MOU documents those expectations.
Both actions were approved by voice/hand vote at the meeting. Commissioners thanked extension staff for their work and said they view support for extension programming as an investment in local youth and education.
