The Historic District Commission voted to hold an application for an addition and relocation at 6 Lily Street, directing the applicant to reduce and set back a western addition that commissioners said currently overwhelms the existing historic building.

Architect Matt presented revisions that moved the building a foot farther from Lily Street, reduced overall width by one foot, and lowered eave heights by 10 inches. Commissioners praised those changes but said the secondary mass on the west elevation still visually dominated the historic structure. Commissioner Abby said the right‑side addition was “overwhelming” and urged that the secondary mass be pushed back to preserve the historic façade. Commissioner Elke described the proposal as still too large and urged a significant reduction.

Commissioners agreed on a focused direction to reduce the west addition’s prominence and requested clear revised drawings showing the massing adjustments. The commission made a motion to hold for revisions and recorded aye votes from all sitting members present; the motion carried.

The applicant acknowledged the direction to push the west addition back and said he would return with revised plans.
