Polk County approves $799,930.85 A/E agreement for joint-use Bartow fire rescue station; county to pay 60% of project costs

Polk County commissioners approved an architectural and engineering agreement on Oct. 21 to advance design of a joint-use Polk County and City of Bartow fire rescue station at 2421 Smith Lane in Bartow.
Staff said the board previously approved an interlocal agreement with the City of Bartow that assigns Polk County 60% of the total project cost and the city 40%; the city’s contribution will be provided to the county as a lump sum payment within 60 days of the construction contract being executed. The attorney/project summary identified the station as an estimated 20,000-square-foot facility.
Fleischmann, Garcia & Maslowski Architects (FG&M) will provide conceptual design, construction documents, floor plans, exterior elevations, landscaping, cost estimates and specifications necessary for bidding, construction and project closeout. The agreement amount presented to the board was $799,930.85, and staff said services are expected to be completed within 730 days, though the contract remains active through final construction completion.
Board members asked for clarification that the county’s share (60%) will be applied to the total agreement amount; staff confirmed that the county’s portion of this agreement is consistent with the interlocal funding split.
The board voted to approve the agreement with FG&M without recorded opposition.
