Parks board highlights $2.7 million Franklin Township Community Park renovation

Bridal Crone, chair of the Board of Parks and Recreation for the consolidated city of Indianapolis, told the board on Oct. 21 that Franklin Township Community Park on the city’s southeast side recently held a ribbon-cutting after a $2,700,000 renovation.

"I am excited to share some highlights that reflect the energy and progress happening across our Indy parks this fall," Crone said, noting the turnout at the opening and that children were already using the playground before the ribbon was cut.

The board said the capital investment added a new playground, walking trails, shelters, pickleball courts and a basketball court. The department described the project as intended to reflect neighborhood needs and to increase community activation of the site.

Parks staff also highlighted a season of fall programming across the city, including haunted hayrides, pumpkin painting and trunk-or-treat events, and said the department recently held an all-staff conference at Krannert Park to recognize employees and share program ideas.

The board did not take formal action on the ribbon-cutting announcement; the remarks were provided as a standing update on parks operations and programming.

The board scheduled its next regular meeting for Nov. 18, 2025, at 4 p.m. in Room T221 of the City-County Building.
