Human Rights Commission to hold veterans fair-housing summit; members announce several community events

The Tulsa Human Rights Commission announced Oct. 20 it will host its second annual Fair Housing Summit in November, focused this year on veterans, and highlighted several community events and partner activities.
Commissioners said the summit will include fair-housing education and one-on-one legal help from Legal Aid, an overview of tenant and landlord law as it applies to veteran status, and participation from city staff, neighborhood associations and housing partners. The summit is scheduled at the Centennial Center at Veterans Park and, according to the commission, more than 30 people had signed up shortly after the announcement.
Commissioner (name not specified) said the event is intended to be accessible — registration is optional — and emphasized partnerships with groups that work directly with veterans and landlords.
Commission staff Lexi also announced other community events: the Greater Tulsa Area African American Affairs Commission’s Black Educator Excellence Awards on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 6 p.m. in the City Council chambers; an expungement expo led by Councilor Hall Harper on Nov. 1 at 306 Sixth Street event center (attendees seeking services are asked to register); and a series of mayor-led community conversations, including an Oct. 27 session on homelessness and housing at the Herman and Kate Kaiser YMCA.
Commissioners encouraged colleagues and community groups to share flyers and booth information for the summit and other events.
