The Pompano Beach Community Redevelopment Agency voted unanimously Oct. 21 to approve a strategic investment program grant agreement with Jellyfishes Inc., doing business as the Jellyfish Museum, for renovations at 199 North Ocean Boulevard.
Agency staff said the project would convert the former Wells Fargo building into a museum with five exhibit areas on the first floor, a second-floor office area and 20 aquariums. Evan Camejo, development project coordinator for the CRA, told the board the total eligible project cost is $6,092,160 and the CRA’s program contribution is $100,547.
The project proposer expects to spend more than $1,300,000 on the work and anticipates creating 10 or more jobs. Camejo said the first-floor area is about 5,600 square feet and described planned demolition of teller windows and interior walls to make space for exhibit areas, a photo area, gift shop, touch pool and technical rooms. He also said the business founders currently operate a location in Kyiv, Ukraine, and are seeking to relocate operations to Pompano Beach.
Camejo corrected finance coding for the record, identifying the expense accounts for the Jellyfishes Inc. application as East 160-1920-539.83-42. The contract timeline presented to the board requires the building permit to be obtained within six months of the effective date and the work to be completed within 24 months; the business owner anticipates finishing in about eight months.
There was no public comment on the item. After brief questions from commissioners, the board approved the resolution by roll call vote.
