The Huber Heights city manager opened the work session Tuesday with a warning to residents about phishing emails that may appear to come from city employees and a run-through of upcoming community events.

The manager said IT investigated and found no city compromise but urged residents to verify sender addresses and avoid clicking suspicious links. As an example he recounted a zoning applicant who expected a $75 fee but received an email asking for $7,500; the applicant contacted the city and confirmed the email was not legitimate.

The manager promoted an upcoming Cups & Conversation event — a public question-and-answer gathering — to be held at the senior center with staff attendance; the earlier session had been at a lunch hour, and the next will be in the evening. He also described a family-friendly haunted trail planned for Community Park over a coming Friday and Saturday; details and parking information, he said, are on the city’s Facebook page.

The manager announced the city’s first holiday craft fair at the senior center is set for Saturday, Nov. 1, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; staff provided a contact email for vendors and questions: mgross@hhoh.org.

Council members asked a few light-hearted logistics questions (for instance, whether the Christmas tree would stay up) and otherwise asked no substantive follow-up. The manager reminded residents to call city staff if they suspect phishing.
