Kaufman County commissioners approve Title VI plan, deputation, subdivision plat and routine spending; enter closed session

Kaufman County Commissioners Court on Oct. 21 approved a Title VI nondiscrimination plan, deputized a new precinct deputy, cleared a 29‑lot private subdivision final plat and authorized routine road and procurement actions and county payments before recessing into a closed session under the Texas Government Code.

The court met in the Kaufman County annex and handled several mostly noncontroversial agenda items, beginning with the Title VI nondiscrimination plan required under new Texas Department of Transportation guidance. Tommy Riggs, a county staff member who presented the plan, said the document formalizes existing nondiscrimination expectations, adds training and periodic data monitoring, names Shelley Tackett as the county’s Title VI coordinator and establishes complaint procedures aimed in part at ensuring limited‑English speakers can obtain county services. Commissioner Lane moved approval; Commissioner Moore seconded, and the motion carried.
