Oak Brook HOA urges city action after repeated ruts and vandalism on Yorktown Boulevard

Donna Kurtz, president of the Oak Brook Homeowners Association, told the City Council that recurring vandalism along Yorktown Boulevard has left ruts more than a foot deep and damaged irrigation and sidewalks used by neighborhood children.

Kurtz said she and neighbors have reported multiple incidents since mid-July and that SeeClickFix requests had been denied or delayed. She asked the city to: fill the ruts with proper equipment, install physical deterrents (curbing, trees, posts or delineators), and consider unmarked police presence at high-risk times. Kurtz offered to show photos of the damage to staff.

Mayor Stoltner and council members responded during council comments and public-safety discussion. The mayor and police noted staffing and reporting issues but said the problem is not confined to Oak Brook and that the police department will pursue enforcement when incidents are reported. The mayor suggested the behavior is being amplified by social media challenges and said the city has impounded vehicles and pursued prosecutions in other cases.

Council members and staff discussed options including physical deterrents, non-emergency reporting systems, increased enforcement at known problem times, and communication with the community about reporting. Public works staff were asked to evaluate repair costs and possible short-term fixes to make sidewalks and routes to Horizon Elementary safer for children.

What the HOA asked for: fill ruts, add deterrents, and consider targeted police patrols on weekend evenings.
