Council members heard a resident-safety concern about a missing sidewalk link in the Summer Trees neighborhood and voted to place a $20,000 sidewalk-extension proposal on a future agenda for site review and further discussion.
Council members agreed to return an item to a future agenda to consider a roughly $20,000 proposal to extend a sidewalk in the Summer Trees neighborhood and add crosswalk markings after a public-safety request.
Councilman Sean Gifford described a gap where an existing sidewalk ends and residents must walk along a major thoroughfare connecting Taylor Road and Williamson Boulevard. He said the roadway has become a commonly used cut-through and noted several accidents there. "The estimate that we're looking at spending is approximately, $20,000 to extend a 100 feet of sidewalk and add some cross markings on that street so people are aware that there are people gonna be crossing that road," Gifford said.
Multiple council members said they had not previously reviewed the site and asked for a formal agenda item so councilors could visit the location, review funding sources and speak with staff about implementation. The council voted to place the sidewalk-extension proposal on a future agenda for consideration.
Council asked staff to include cost detail and the funding source in the agenda packet and to coordinate a possible site visit before a final vote.
