Montgomery County EDA members move meeting materials to Diligent platform; staff provides training

Members of the Montgomery County Economic Development Authority on Tuesday walked through the agency’s new Diligent meeting platform during a short training and work session.
The training explained how members access the “member agenda” view, which shows closed-session locks and voting markers, and how the public view differs. Brian, a county staff member who led the demonstration, said members should use the member view to see closed-session documents and the little stars that indicate agenda items that will be voted on. “Brian's kinda just gonna walk through what Diligent looks like,” a staff presenter said as the demonstration began.
The platform demonstration covered attachments, how documents open within the split-screen viewer, and where to find minutes and linked materials. Staff showed that closed-session items appear with a lock icon on the member agenda but are not visible on the public site. Members were instructed that the public site is accessible from the county’s meetings tab and that the EDA remains nested under the Board of Supervisors pages for public access.
Staff also described practical tips: bookmarking the login page on tablets or adding the Diligent icon to an iPad home screen, and that the system will email members at their county address when a new agenda is published. The presenter noted there are member-facing how-to videos in Diligent’s “What’s New” area and a set of “how to” member videos comparing BoardDocs to Diligent.
Presiding members asked clarifying questions about whether closed-session documents were present for the meeting; staff confirmed none were required for this session, and that a single example item remained visible only because it was being used as a demonstration. Staff also said the EDA adjusted agenda language (for example, changing “approve as presented” to “motion to approve as presented”) to make voting points more explicit in the new interface.
The demonstration finished with staff offering help for members who could not see the member view and reminding members that some visual elements (stars indicating votes and the closed-session lock) will not appear in the public view.
