The Roswell City Council committees on Oct. 14 approved authorization to perform right-of-way acquisition services and accept right-of-way options for the Nesbitt Ferry Road project, authorizing up to $165,000 for Roswell’s acquisitions related to a joint roundabout project at Colony Club Drive.
Greg Nicholas, interim director of transportation, told committees the project is a joint effort with the City of Johns Creek and that two parcels on the Roswell side are being impacted. "There are 2 parcels on the city of Roswell side that are being impacted. And I think there are 2 or 3 on the Johns Creek side as well," Nicholas said. He said appraisals have been completed and the $165,000 figure includes contingency to allow closing on the parcels.
Councilmember David Johnson framed the roundabout at Colony Club Drive as a safety improvement. "This is the most dangerous intersection on the whole Nesbitt Ferry corridor, outside of Holcomb Bridge and Nesbitt Ferry," Johnson said, and described the change as a traffic calming measure. Mayor Wilson and other councilmembers thanked staff and Johnson and Lee Hills for community engagement on the issue.
A motion to move the item forward was made by Councilmember Johnson and seconded by Councilmember Hills; the committees voted and the motion passed unanimously.
Next steps: staff will proceed with right-of-way closings on the two Roswell parcels and continue coordination with Johns Creek on adjacent parcels and construction sequencing.
