Minutes: The committee approved the minutes of its Oct. 1, 2025 regular meeting by roll call.
Policies: The committee moved second readings and approvals for a package of policies (listed on the agenda) including school nutrition and meal modifications, admission policies for career and technical programs (IHA/IHAIC), middle school exploration policy, and parent advisory council (KBG). Committee members said several staff and attorneys contributed to the revisions and noted the policies must be reviewed annually in some cases to comply with state requirements.
Warrants: The committee approved two warrants. Combined totals read aloud covered athletics, food services, general expenses, grants, maintenance, reimbursements, special education, student activities, transportation and telecommunications for a grand total of $1,729,063 (first warrant read earlier in the meeting) and an additional warrant totaling $1,324,536.61. The roll-call votes showed one abstention on the second warrant; otherwise votes were unanimous.
Student travel: The committee approved a request from Chicopee Comprehensive High School for 20–30 French and world-language students to travel to Montreal, Canada, in April 2026. The trip was described as a four‑day educational visit during spring break with an expected per‑student cost of $1,300–$1,500 covering food, transportation and lodging.
Personnel and job descriptions: The committee accepted personnel-report items including recent vacancies and resignations and approved an updated job description for the family and community engagement facilitator. A retirement of Deborah Badger, cook manager at Chicopee Academy (18 years, 5 months of service), was recognized.
Executive session: At the meeting’s end the committee voted to enter executive session for strategy with respect to nonunion contract negotiations and collective bargaining matters; the chair said the session was necessary to protect the committee’s bargaining position.
