Student advisory council outlines priorities; Special Education Parent Advisory Council announces leadership

Students from Chicopee Academy, Chicopee Comp and Chicopee High described priorities tied to the district strategic plan during the Oct. 15 school committee meeting, emphasizing respectful school culture and stronger relationships between students and staff.
Kyle Connor, speaking for the Chicopee Comp Student Advisory Committee, introduced student members and said the group had prioritized “fostering caring and respectful places to learn” and “empowering and valuing our students, educators and staff.” The students asked the committee for suggestions and support as they finalize action plans.
Separately, the Chicopee Special Education Parent Advisory Council (CPAC) thanked outgoing president Jennifer Fellows Gardner for four years of service and announced Omar Irizarry as the new CPAC president. The council also introduced parent liaisons assigned to several schools and noted upcoming virtual meetings, including an Oct. 28 session on parents’ rights and a follow-up session on assistive/augmentative communication (AAC).
CPAC thanked district special‑education coordinator Lindsay Smithies and said the council planned an active calendar of virtual meetings and outreach for families of students with disabilities.
