Pembroke Pines urges FAA, Broward County to probe North Perry Airport safety after plane crash; neighbors honored for rescue

The Pembroke Pines City Commission on Aug. 6 adopted a resolution asking the Federal Aviation Administration and Broward County to investigate safety and flight‑frequency conditions at North Perry Airport and to direct Broward County to complete an air‑quality study of lead concentrations in the surrounding residential area.

The measure, moved by Commissioner Goode and seconded by Vice Mayor Hernandez, passed with four votes in favor and one abstention. Commissioner Schwartz announced an abstention on the record before the vote. The resolution directs the city clerk to transmit the request to FAA regional officials and to the Broward County Board of County Commissioners and also asks the county to replace the North Perry Airport Community Advisory Committee with a North Perry Airport Standing Oversight Committee with broader review authority.

Why it matters: North Perry (HWO) has seen a large rise in operations that city staff say has exceeded the airport’s 2020 master‑plan forecast.
