Columbia City Council approved first reading of proposed user-fee changes for Findlay Park, which city staff said are intended to align rental fees with the park’s roughly $25 million capital investment ahead of the park’s planned grand reopening.
Kenya Bryant, director of Parks and Recreation, told council the fees were prepared in consultation with staff and are intended to reflect the investment made to renovate Findlay Park. “These user fees are basically we want to make sure that our fees for rentals match the investment that we made in Findlay Park as far as the $25,000,000 investment,” Bryant said. No members of the public signed up to speak on the item during the public hearing portion that night.
Council moved and seconded the ordinance for first reading; the roll call recorded aye votes and the item was set to return for second reading the following week. Staff said the public hearing will be held as required ahead of that second reading.
Ending: City staff will bring the fees back for second reading following required public-notice procedures in advance of the park’s November 15 grand reopening.
