The Town Council authorized the town manager to execute purchases not to exceed $200,000 for two electric police vehicles, Motorola radios and vehicle upfitting, using grant funding awarded through the Arizona Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant program.
Public Works Director Lou Anderson and staff said the town secured a $141,000 grant award and budgeted for vehicle procurement and charging‑station design work. The vehicles are two Ford F‑150 Lightning SuperCrew trucks priced at $56,004.16 each, with radio equipment and upfitting by Arizona Emergency Products; the total package presented at the meeting was $199,786.70. Staff said vehicle purchase is allowed under state contract and cooperative purchasing agreements.
Staff said design work for charging station installation was underway and that installation costs are expected to be about $18,000–$16,000 plus excavation; the charging station plan and installation costs were not part of the motion approved at the meeting. Lou Anderson said waiting times for delivery make it necessary to place vehicle orders promptly; staff estimated vehicles and upfitting might take several months to arrive and be completed.
Council Members moved and seconded the motion to approve the purchases; the motion passed by voice vote. Staff said one vehicle will be assigned to the school resource officer once delivered. The council did not appropriate additional town funds at the meeting for charging‑station construction.
