Council approves "Many Faces of Torrington" photo exhibit for City Hall auditorium

The Torrington City Council voted Oct. 20 to authorize the mayor to approve the Many Faces of Torrington photo exhibit for display in the City Hall auditorium subject to normal city policies and scheduling with the facilities department.
The exhibit, presented by the Many Faces of Torrington project and co-sponsored by the Torrington Historical Society, Culture is Beautiful and 5 Points Arts, will include 20 framed portraits for City Hall and a larger collage banner intended for broader display around town. Project organizers said portraits will be drawn from community nominations and will include both contemporary and historic images; all subjects must sign photo-release forms.
Speakers at the meeting described the exhibit's goal as celebrating the city's diversity and community contributions. Organizers said the display is intended to be a living project, open to new nominations and additions over time. Council members asked about submission and selection procedures; organizers said nominations can be sent by email to project leads or submitted through partner organizations and that volunteer photographers are available to document nominees as needed.
The motion approving the single-event authorization passed on a voice vote. City staff will coordinate display timing and oversight to ensure compliance with city policies for use of public buildings.
